Magic Gathering Leveler

September 1st, 2010 admin No comments

In Magic The Gathering, can a creature level-up on the turn it is summoned?

I am very new to MTG, as are my friends, so we had a debate the other day about something. The starter deck I bought was called Leveler’s Glory, a blue and white deck that is based on leveling up weaker monsters for low mana costs. Well, I summoned a creature (I’m pretty sure it was Student of Warfare, but I might be mistaken) and tried to level it up right then. My friend argued that it had summoning sickness and was unable to gain level counters. As far as I know, summoning sickness only keeps creatures from attacking and/or using tap abilities, but can still level-up. Who’s right, me or my friend?

You’re right. The ability is not a tap ability, and only abilities that require a creature to tap are stopped by summoning sickness.

Hmm. The blue-black pack is called “Levelers’ Scorn.” We’re pretty sure we’ve heard of “levelers” before. It might have been in the name of the previous pack. IMPORTANT NOTE: This image has been corrected. The foil card in Levelers’ Scorn is Sphinx of Magosi, not Surrakar Spellblade. Surrakar Spellblade does not appear in this deck….

This one is “Levelers’ Glory,” and it’s white-blue. The name of the rare is about half-visible, and we’d feel like jerks if we didn’t tell you what it was. Of course, we feel like jerks a lot of the time anyway. But here: it’s Student of Warfare. You’re welcome….

Magic Cards Black Lotus

Magic The Gathering Question?

I don’t know how to play the game or anything but why is the card “Black Lotus” So expensive? I mean, iv’e seen a yu-gi-oh card for $1599, and there was only 8 in the world. But $1799 is by far the most expensive iv’e ever seen..

Black Lotus’ value is built on a few factors:

1) Rarity: Black Lotus has only been printed in a few sets in the game. Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited were the first 3 sets in the game, and the Lotus was printed in each of these sets. Beyond that, the Lotus only saw print in special runs (reprints of tournament winning decks, for example).

2) Usefulness: The Black Lotus is often called the most powerful card in the game by way of its ability to create resources from nothing. Resources in Magic are built off of “mana” which is created by varying methods. The Black Lotus circumvents the “cost to creation” ratio of mana, basically creating something from nothing, and allowing the abuse of early-game resources. As it costs no resources itself to play, it can be included in any deck in the appropriate format, and used to full extent of ability.

3) Collectibility: This one is fairly key. In M:TG tournaments, players are now allowed to “proxy” a certain number of cards in their decks, to offset the “buy-in” cost of competitive tournament play. In theory, every “vintage format” MTG deck can use the Black Lotus, and since You Can “proxy” it, you don’t actually need to own a copy of that card. However, it is still highly valued among collectors, and, to a lesser extent, players with enough money in their pockets to support needless “bragging rights” amongst their peers.

Magic Tricks Revealed: The Friends Who Always Stick Together

If you love up close magic tricks that are easy to learn, you’ve come to the right place. In this article you’ll learn an easy trick that requires only a little bit of set up. It is an up close trick, so you’ll be able to do this in front of your friends, and You Can even get one of your friends to volunteer and help out. This makes it even more mysterious. It helps to be able to tell a good story with this trick.

Here’s how the trick will look to your friends. You start out with three Jacks spread out across a table. You make up some long story about how they are best friends, and always find each other. Tell some story about how they had to go their separate ways. Put one Jack on top, one someplace in the middle, and one on the bottom. Remember to explain that Jacks of magical powers of reunion.

Then ask your volunteer to cut the deck once. After they cut the deck, tell some more stories about how the Jacks always find each other no matter what happens. Turn over the deck, so the cards are face up, and spread them out. Somewhere in the middle, the three Jacks will be together once again, stunning the crowd.

Here’s the trick. Make sure to leave one Jack on top of the deck that you don’t show to anybody. So when you put one Jack on top, there will actually be two on top. And when you put one Jack on the bottom, and your volunteer cuts the deck, they’ll automatically be putting one Jack on top of two, so they will always be someplace in the deck.

Make sure when you do this to keep the focus on your story, and use sweeping hand gestures and so on. Because the Jacks they find in the middle of the deck won’t be the same Jacks that were laid at the beginning of the trick. But if you only lay them out long enough to show everybody that there are indeed three Jacks, and continue with your story for a couple of minutes after you place them in the deck, they will most likely quickly forget the exact suits.

Of course, with some deft hand maneuvers you can do this trick again, but you run the risk of being detected, as they’ll be watching your hands much more closely. I’ve only been able to do this two or three times in a row before my audience figured out what was going on. Nevertheless, this is a great trick to do if you’ve got a couple other tricks up your sleeve, so to speak. Have fun.

Magic The Gathering Cards Worldwake

August 21st, 2010 admin No comments

Magic The Gathering questions?

1. When worldwake comes out will M10 be standard?

2. If my opponent plays Iona, Shield of Emeria, and he/she says black, can I counter the card with Hideous End at the time he/she plays it?

3. If I have a card that says I can’t be target of spells or abilities, will my planeswalker be effected?
What kind of standard black card can counter Iona, Shield of Emeria as she is played?

1. M10 will be standard legal until Alara block leaves, when the large set after Rise of the Eldrazi is released.

2. In order for Hideous End to target Iona, Iona needs to resolve and be in play. However, Iona’s controller names a colour as soon as that happens, and once the colour has been named, that colour is locked out. By the time you get a chance to play Hideous End, the colour has been named and locked out, and if that colour was black…well, tough.

3. Sort of. Spells like Lightning Bolt can’t target planeswalkers directly – they have to target you, then the controller of the Bolt can redirect the damage to the planeswalker. If You Can‘t be targeted, that can’t happen, so your planeswalker is safe. However, a spell like Earthquake, which deals damage to everything without targeting anything, can still deal damage to you, and the damage can still be redirected to your planeswalker. Also, anything that does target the planeswalker directly, such as Maelstrom Pulse, can still target it, since it isn’t trying to target you at all.

Magic Kamigawa

magic kamigawa
Which Kamigawa deck is the best? (Magic)?

Which Kamigawa deck is the best?

Champions, Betrayers, etc.

and what name is it called?

Thanks

That depends on your playing style and amount of experience. If you’re a beginner, a samurai deck would be good to start off with. The samurai in the Kamigawa Cycle are either white or red and revolve around their bushido ability (when the creature blocks or becomes blocked it gets +1 +1 until end of turn for each other samurai in play), which is similar to banding or rampage. The white defensive/red offensive theme makes a powerful balance but lacks elaborate or dazzling combinations and can be quite slow to bring out which makes them prone being swarmed by token/weenie decks. I can’t remember the names of the starter decks though as I constructed mine mostly from booster packs and trades. Then there are spirits, ninja, moonfolk, shamans, clerics and monks. Spirit decks probably involve the most elaborate combinations.
